Sum Of The Whole commemorates the artist's 50th birthday, which can be a complex and significant milestone. In the installation, a harmonious and repetitive grouping constructed out of vaginal shapes is scattered along the floor and wall. Refined, pared-down, and organic fragments of the body act as a vessel/vehicle for transformation. Their repetition de-familiarizes and abstracts the form from its source yet retains a strange familiarity with its origin. Referencing the nearness to nature, the work invites all to consider one’s universal connection, perceptions of reality, and the nature of existence.
