After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, I was compelled to ask the technician for a handful of colorful stickers that were used to mark the nipples prior to imaging. I wondered if these skin markers were purposefully bright and cheery so as to distract from this procedure and its possible consequences. Reflecting on this in my studio, I began to paste the skin markers on my breast as the techs had done at the radiology center. But instead of simply marking the nipple, I found this exercise more akin to sculpting my body. The skin markers became a means to map my own body, and "Days After" is the illustration of this journey.

In 2022, Beekley Medical donated additional skin markers to support the continuation of this project as I continue the series on marking my journey. Repeating this act periodically, has become both a personal ritual and a memorial for those who have lived with breast cancer, as well as a call for early detection.
