Carnival I
1999
Giclee archival print
Carnival I is not a self-portrait alone; however it serves as an icon representing loss. Carnival (carni meaning flesh + val meaning removal) reflects on the hope of the riddled body. This is a votice commemoration of my mother and all women. It deals with the sense of loss and seeks to reclaim our humanity by focusing on the need to establish authentic relationships with our identity, bodies, culture and spirituality.
